Expanding the living space with a room addition and create a second level deck overlooking Lake James were the main objectives of this remodeling project. This was our second remodeling project for this homeowner, after working well together on his previous home, he called us again to hear his vision and come up with design ideas for his current home. The end result is a super lake addition and renovation project.

The existing first level recreation room was small and had a very lower level feel. We removed existing rear walls of the house and added engineered steel beams with steel columns to support the existing 2nd floor and walls. We then added a 16’ x 32’ addition that is surrounded by wood siding, 5’ x 5’ windows and flanked on both ends with patio doors. The inside of the recreation room basically became a 32’ x 32’ space with a center console that divides the pool table from the sitting and TV area. The center contains a 3 sided gas fireplace with a TV mounted above and the back side has a bar area with recessed cabinets. The interior has a warm feeling with stained wood wainscoting on the walls, stained woodwork throughout and wood tone glazing on the floors.

Other features of this remodel include siding on the entire exterior of the home with detail vinyl shake shingles in the gables, high efficiency wood windows and trim, and a solid wood front door with leaded glass. One of the unique elements to this remodel is the second floor deck overtop of the recreation room that allows a striking view of Lake James. The decking is a tongue and groove replica recycled composite material. All of the railings and posts are recycled material and the railings are glass as to not block the view.
